Dave Kesby was a founding member of the Hornsby/Berowra Ukelele Group (affectionately known as the Hornsby BUGs).
He learnt to play ukulele at one of John Chandler’s ukulele classes in January 2011 at the Hornsby Community College. He played his ukulele to help him get through the endless medical treatments that he endured during his illness.
Dave was a friendly bloke; he encouraged all newcomers to the group, he put them at ease and soon had them laughing and singing along.
Dave passed away in March 2012 and the BUGS sang and played Dave’s favourite songs at his service on the 2nd May, 2012. He’d told his wife, Elissa, that he thought about 30-40 people would attend his funeral. More than 250 people crowded into the little hall of the Uniting Church in Berowra.
To Elissa, Jack and Pete, and families – our thoughts are with you
Dave Kesby – you will be missed
Michael, an early enthusiastic member of the Hornsby BUGs, regularly attending Friday meeting in spite of the growing effects to his health.
Michael left our group to play with the celestial greats in August 2014
Don’s smiling face, little yellow uke and jokes will be sadly missed at our regular Friday gigs.
Don joined the BUGs very early in the piece and was an enthusiastic strummer and singer. He helped form the BUGs ACES (Aged Care Entertainers) and was a driving force in its successful programme of bringing performances to Nursing Home and Church Groups in the Hornsby/Ku-Ring-Gai area. Don was also involved in a U3A Ukulele group at his retirement home, spreading the joys of the “Jumping Flee”
In December 2014, Don left us to lead another group in “When the Saints Come Marching In”.
